We are thrilled to have Dr. Anita Shane, MD join our esteemed team retina specialists. Dr. Shane founded and works out of our Venice Florida office, Venice Retina P.A. She brings her wealth of experience and compassionate care to patients in Sarasota, Venice, Englewood, and North Port. Having grown up in the Clearwater area, Dr. Shane has always felt a profound commitment to the health and well-being of residents of Florida’s gulf coast. Her dedication is evident in her personable approach and the high-quality retinal care she provides.

Dr. Shane’s academic journey began with her becoming the valedictorian of Palm Harbor University High School, a reflection of her dedication and hard working nature. Her pursuit of excellence continued at Rice University, where she completed a dual degree program, earning a Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics in just three years. She then graduated from the esteemed Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, further solidifying her foundation in the medical field.

Her passion for ophthalmology led her to the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, the top ophthalmology program in the United States, where she completed her residency. Dr. Shane’s commitment to mastering her craft kept her at Bascom Palmer for a two-year vitreoretinal surgical fellowship, during which she trained under some of the nation’s most respected vitreoretinal surgeons. This period was marked by her intensive training in the most advanced vitreoretinal surgical techniques and equipment. In recognition of her leadership and expertise, Dr. Shane was appointed Chief Resident and Director of the Ocular Trauma Service during her second fellowship year.

Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Shane is an esteemed member of both the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Retina Specialists. She holds credentials at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice and Sarasota, ensuring her services are accessible to a broad community.
